It`s always time for a good Schnitzel with Sauerkraut.
Interests
So I think about fictional firearms all the time.
This might be nothing new to you if you know my Art and interests.

But to get to the topic I want to discuss my favorite ones even if they are simple designs maybe I will make a full season out of this I don‘t know just let me know if you like it or tell me what you think about it :)
I really would enjoy your interest in it and read your opinion.

Main Info:

I‘m gonna start with one of my all-time favorite, the „Laputa“ (I‘m just gonna call it that way.) 40-mm multi purpose break opening single loading pistol launcher: (mainly this launcher seems to be based on an M1911like handle with finger protection. Note that there doesn‘t seem to be any option to add a sling or a sling mount on it.)

The break opening system can be seen here: (although it soesn‘t seem to have a specific leaver or handle to open the gun, this seems to be either forgotten or just not included so the design was simpler to draw in all scenes.)

Here you can see the 40mm shells while these don‘t seem to be really high powered (note their lengths) this could also be due to drawing simplification or these shells are supposed to be smaller rounds for easier handling the gun while firing since it doesn‘t seem like there is any option for a stock.
To be hones I would‘ve sticked with normal rounds but I can only guess why they didn‘t.:

Long gun story short:

The Gun only appears in the anime „Castle in the sky“ and firstly appears at the beginning of the movie as the „sky pirates“ engage and try to kidnap the girl from the Airship she was flying with.
The pirates mostly use smoke generating gas like 40mm shells in that scene.
Later the gun can be seen firing explosive 40mm rounds at various points in the movie.

The boy is aiming at the wall:

All in all the design was supposed to look as simple as possible due to it‘s steampunk like timeline it is supposed to be in and I really like that style.
If possible I would only add a sling mount at the back and the missing break opening leaver and maybe chose a darker colour with darker wood but I really like that and wouldn‘t change any unique details there.

All links used here are from IMFDB but I think you can see that by yourself.
